Get an Exclusive Look at Three Lego Batman Sets Before New York Comic Con

By October 5, 2016New Sets

At New York Comic Con this weekend, there will be no shortage of panels and events related to Batman. One is an early look at a documentary about the co-creator of the Batman character, Bill Finger, called “Batman & Bill.” Another is the premiere screening of an animated movie, “Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader.” Separate panels will feature Batman comics writer Scott Snyder and the cast of the Fox show “Gotham,” and a third will offer a look at what’s ahead for the Batman comics.

So it makes sense that LEGO plans to unveil new Batman-themed sets at the convention this weekend, and Speakeasy is exclusively revealing three of the sets today: “Mr. Freeze Ice Attack,” “Batcave Break-In” — available at general retailers on Nov. 27 — and “Arkham Asylum,” available only at Toys “R” Us on Jan. 1, 2017.

The set allows one to “defend against the Penguin’s Duckmobile invasion of the Batcave,” and so it features a Batcave with rotating transformation chamber for Bruce Wayne. There’s also a rotating Batcomputer control center and a prison with an exploding escape wall. To the side is a wardrobe with the Scu-Batsuit, Raging Batsuit and the Bat-Pack Batsuit. The Batboat comes with spring-loaded missiles, while the Duckmobile has dual stud shooters and flick missiles. There are four minifigures — Batman, the Penguin, Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth — and two Hench-Penguins. 1,045 pieces in all, the set will retail for $99.99.

This set is meant to “help Batman defend the Gotham Energy Facility from Mr. Freeze’s Exosuit assault and save the security guard from the ice prison.” There is a power plant build and an opening ice prison, and an “Exosuit” which fits a minifigure and stud-shooting freeze guns. The three minifigures are Batman, Mr. Freeze and a security guard. The set has 201 pieces and its retail price is $19.99.
